Biennale Venezia - Biannual art expo in Venice.

A few virtual visits to the Biannual International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy, 2013.

I'm starting with this  link (You Tube) to the interview with American artist Sarah Sze exhibiting in the  Pavillion of the United States of America.

http://youtu.be/Hxau2tgzqTw

Sarah Sze's work is carefully studied and complex. Interesting to see. About nature, modeling large amounts of information unable to be understood.  The pendulum, behavior, the desire to model information. Important to feel the intimacy in the work, alive. A work of discovery, the process of seeing.

Hope to visit the expo during the summer.

The Right Moment

#1 rusty nails on paper (8x8")

final version rusty nails (8"x 8")

Almost 2 months have gone by since I started out on this project.(see post "New  . . .but already rusty")  I had good intentions to continue. But, there have been various trip ups and my good intentions were strangled! Now I'm back, (I never really stopped working totally on these experimental pieces) but never could take more than a few minutes here and there to scrutenize them or to add a touch of color.
It's not a good practise. At least not for me. You lose any train of thought you might have had, that concentrated energy that is there at the beginning.

To refresh memories, the first photo, on the left, is the image produced by the rusted nails on white paper.

The second is my finished painting as of today.  It is finished, in the sense that I won't take it any further now.  Who knows in the future.

Nature At Work

CACTUS IN BLOOM

I couldn't let this go by without sharing it .  This cactus blooms generously every year but the flowers last only one day. Nature is . . .

MARVELOUS!

A Miracle on the Web.

The sun has finally come out to stay, something that has had a beautiful effect on me these  past few days. We had our first cookout meal on the terrace yesterday and today I even took the day off to drive to town( (San Casciano,).  Monday is market day.  Nothing much to buy.  I just  love to look at the people as they wander from stall to stall, trying on clothes, choosing pots of  flowers, stocking up on fruits and vegetables for  the week.  It’s the thing to do.  Some people come from as far as Florence to meet  here on Monday morning.  I needed a distraction from home and studio.  Will get back to work tomorrow. (And . . . by the way. . .  the computer is now working fine . . . shhhhhh. . . . don’t want to break the spell ! ! ! )

Painful. . .incredibly painful ! ! ! !

I can hardly believe it took me all day to publish this last post. Unfortunatly I've converted my poor old computer that was  fast and efficient, really fast and efficient, into a slower than Moses, grumpy, ornery relic just because I am now on Wi-Fi and not on LAN.  Can't believe the difference the change has made for me. It's a struggle to put a post together, words and images.  To move from one point to the other takes at least 5 to 10 minutes. Got to straighten this out.  Even my text is jumping around. Mamma mia!! Maybe it's a
BUG. . . . Hope to see you soon,%5/)?==?^=%%$£"%&???^)%£%/&/()= HELP

"ANIMA e CORPO" - "BODY and SOUL"

"Emerging Figures- Blue Notes"

"Emerging Figures"
These are my two pieces in the summer collective show at the Gallery ART-ART in Impruneta. The show, “ANIMA e CORPO”, is a celebration of the arts as well as an honoring of the members of ART-ART.

The guest of honor at the show is sculptor Valentino Moradei Gabbrielli whose research is characterized by a plastic figuration. He often uses polistirolo and stucco that seem to be marble and bronze.

New. . .and already rusty!

#1 - rust marks on paper
#2 - rust marks on paper

I would like to take you step-by-step with me through  an experimental process that I am working on. I have already showed you my lovely old nails and have no idea where this new approach will take me  but  am fascinated by the idea of these rusty pieces which for me represent the architectural  and the images that they produce which denote the figure.

(Above) I am working with small pieces of heavy quality drawing paper (8"x 8") which  I prepared with gesso and   left to dry thoroughly. Then, using my antique nails which I wet with water and vinegar, I obtained  the above images.
